The Big Green Vibe
Big Green Surf School was founded in Spring of 2011 as the in-house surf school for Base Surf Lodge in Newquay. We started out with the aim of providing a more personal surf coaching experience and turning Base into the ultimate surf lodge right in the heart of Newquay. From 2011 to 2017 we built an amazing reputation with Base for the personal, high-quality service and tuition in our lessons. We're immensely proud of everything the school at Base has become, and of that the fact that in 2018 Louby, one of our old coaches (who also had her first surf lesson with Big Green Surf School), took over the reigns and alongside Rob the owner of the lodge has made Base Surf Lodge the most complete surf lodge in Newquay.

Big Green at Crantock

In 2016 we got the opportunity to become the exclusive surf school and
activity centre on the stunning Crantock Beach through working with the
National Trust. We absolutely love Crantock, both for the amazing beach
and incredible community - we have all been surfing here in our spare time
for years so the chance to bring the BGSS lessons and activities here was
unmissable. The vibe of the beach fits perfectly with our aims, being able to
provide a real personal experience for all of our students with tons of space
in the water. We're sure that you'll agree it's a truly special place!

We're not ones to rest on our laurels though; every year we strive to
improve not only the standard of our coaching, but the whole experience that Big Green Surf School offers, increasing the range of activities, upgrading equipment and generally trying to be the best we can be!

In 2019 we were proud to become an accredited SurfingEngland school and by AALA (the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) as a licensed provider of adventure activities for our Stand-Up-Paddleboarding, Kayaking and now Coasteering sessions. This ensures that not only are you receiving the highest quality tuition, but that our safety protocols, equipment and training are all up to scratch.

We were also stoked to become part of the Surfers Against Sewage Ocean Network, helping to protect our oceans and beaches alongside some incredible companies throughout the UK. To find out more about Surfers Against Sewage click here and see if you can help support their work too!
Crantock Community

Crantock has an incredible local community which we're honoured to be a part of. We run 2 local's clubs the Big Green Surf Gals and the Big Green Groms which are weekly surf clubs for ladies and kids respectively. Get in touch for more info or check out the pages on Facebook for all the info.

No matter how far we grow, our students have always and will always be at the core of what we do, our ultimate aim is that everyone we teach continues to love their surfing, SUPing, kayaking or whichever way the choose to enjoy the water, for years to come. Surfing & the ocean in general, has changed the lives of every single one of the Big Green team and it's always so rewarding to bump into past students in the water, riding their own boards and truly living the dream!
